Eligibility : Pass in 10th Pass Mininmum Age 15 Years
Primary (Kindergarten) Teacher Training has been designed for Daycare
Centres, Pre- Schools and Kindergarten Teachers. The mail goal of the
Early Childhood programme is to foster and encourage a continuing
self-growth in students by providing a problem-solving and participatory
approach to learning. This programme offers the fundamental knowledge
and skills for those wishing to work with young children. The programme
examines the overall development of children along with the techniques
and procedures used in setting the stage for and guiding the behaviour
of children in a preschool, kindergarten and day care center. This
programme meets both the academic and fieldwork requirements for a
Diploma in Early Childhood education. Successful completion of this
programme will enable the student to:
Describe and explain normal patterns of growth and development of
preschool age children.
Observe and assess development and behaviour of children and identify
and discuss developmental strengths and needs of children.
Determine the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive and
intellectual needs of the children in a center and plan an appropriate
environment and Guide
children’s behaviour.
Select and arrange suitable toys and equipment for children in the
center or classroom.
Assist in setting up, administering and operating a preschool programme
such as a day care center, preschool or kindergarten School.
Plan and implement curriculum in preschool environment and Define the
long-term and short-term objectives for the operation of a preschool
programme and
assist in carrying them through. Determine needs and set up a programme
for a child with special needs within in the existing programme and
determine
a programme for infants and toddlers in a group setting.
Recognise and take appropriate action in matters concerning
health/safety and first aid.
Plan menus through awareness of nutritional needs of children and
Interview and counsel parents.
Assist parents in examining alternative management ways of handling
young children.
Use community agencies for referrals and / or consultations regarding
children and families with special needs such as subsidy for care,
developmental lags,
medical or psychological concerns.
Write grammatically correct, legible reports, newsletters, developmental
status records and reports, parent information sheets, school brochures
etc.
Perform professionally Examine and evaluate various aspects of the
programme
This is a 32 credit programme comprising following four courses
1 Child Development and Psychology
2 Early Childhood Education (Pre School Teacher Training)
3 Nutrition, Health, Hygiene and First-Aid
4 Communication skills and Fundamental Computer Knowledge
6 Project Work (Practical in a School)
Students enrolled for Diploma in Pre-Primary (Kindergarten) Teacher
Training (DPTT) programme has to attend 90 percent of compulsory
Practical session
at Programme Study Centre. Further students has to work with
Kindergarten Children for 30 days in a Kindergarten School for
observation and teaching
practice and submit the Project Report to Controller of Examinations,
TNOU.
